Outstanding in the Field Dinner @ The Pergola

Date: Fri, Apr 24, 2020
Venue: The Pergola at Hearst Ranch San Simeon
Email: info@hearstranchwinery.com

Join Hearst Ranch Winery and Hearst Ranch Beef for an unforgettable dinner by Outstanding in the Field at The Pergola on Friday April 24th.

On April 24th, Outstanding in the Field will set their tables at The Pergola on Hearst Ranch in San Simeon. This magical evening will be an opportunity for guests to experience an area of Hearst Ranch that is not open to the public. Steve Hearst, great-grandson of scion William Randolph Hearst, will speak of the ranch, 150 years of family and California history, and take us on a tour. Views will include Hearst Castle, the vast Pacific and green grass dotted with cattle. Hearst Ranch beef and Hearst Ranch wine will be on the menu. In the field kitchen is OITF founder Jim Denevan and the traveling OITF culinary crew.

Outstanding in the Field was founded by Jim Denevan in 1999 as a radical alternative to the conventional dining experience. Rather than source ingredients for a restaurant, they bring the restaurant to the source. Their aim is to connect diners to the origins of their food while celebrating the hardworking hands that feed us all. Their roving restaurant without walls is rebuilt every morning and disappears every night. It is a momentary experience and a joyful celebration of human connection.

The Pergola was designed to be a protected passageway for William Randolph Hearst and his guests to ride horses along the hillside. Grapevines were grown along the top of the Pergola to help provide shade for the riders underneath. Hearst also had espaliered fruit trees growing alongside the columns. The extraordinary beauty of Hearst Ranch is the result of dedicated and thoughtful land stewardship. Since 1865, the Hearst family has worked to protect this working landscape and its conservation values: agricultural productivity, biodiversity, and scenic vistas and coastlines.
