Make a wine tasting reservation for the San Simeon Tasting Room at 1pm and enjoy live jazz/pop music from renowned and talented musicians Anthony Wilson, Jeff Babko and David Piltch.

A very special instrumental crossover jazz/pop trio of world class musicians will be appearing one afternoon only at Hearst Ranch Winery’s San Simeon tasting area. Guitarist Anthony Wilson, keyboardist Jeff Babko and bassist David Piltch will convene as they have in Southern California at Los Angeles’ premier Sam First jazz venue and the legendary Village Recorder studios.

Son of renowned jazz big bandleader/composer Gerald Wilson, Anthony Wilson began an auspicious career as a Grammy nominated jazz artist in the mid 1990’s. With a series of critically acclaimed solo jazz albums (and beyond, with a genre-bending offering “Frogtown” in 2016 and a melding of his 33mm photography and inspired music in 2019), Wilson has been a mainstay on the global jazz scene. You also may have heard or seen him in Diana Krall’s group for over 20 years, being part of the quartet that won the Grammy for her “Live In Paris” album, as well as having recorded and played live with Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Aaron Neville, and Barbra Streisand, as well as jazz legends Ron Carter and Charles Lloyd. Wilson has been a force and unique voice on the guitar for decades now.

Jeff Babko began playing piano at age 3, learning songs from the radio and watching late night TV bands. Little did he know that learning all the songs from Toto IV (“Africa”, “Rosanna”) would prepare him to be the first replacement for Toto founder David Paich on a worldwide tour in 2000, and that studying (and later befriending) Paul Shaffer with David Letterman would prepare him for 22+ years in the house band on ABC TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” He’s also been musical director for comic performer Martin Short for 26 years and tours with the ongoing Steve Martin/Martin Short tour, also appearing in their Netflix special in 2018. Babko gets the chance to tour (and record) also with James Taylor and Sheryl Crow, and is a regular presence on TV and film scores like “Cobra Kai,” this year’s “Lilo & Stitch” reboot, “Toy Story 4” with Randy Newman, “Frozen 2” (“Into the Unknown”) and “Encanto” including the #1 single “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”

David Piltch was born in Toronto, as the son of one of Canada’s busiest stage and studio musicians. Starting his career early in Toronto, Piltch would regularly back up jazz legends like Chet Baker, Art Pepper, Zoot Sims, and Mose Allison. After a brief stint in Blood Sweat & Tears, he soon became 1/3 of the very popular and long running Holly Cole Trio, and would eventually relocate to Santa Barbara. Upon moving to the States, Piltch became a busy recording musician, with a long association with kd lang, and records by Gnarls Barkley, John Legend, Aaron Neville, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, and Don Henley. He is known for a unique style on the acoustic bass with a percussive edge and also being a vocalist’s favorite supporter. The trio plays everything from originals to jazz standards to adaptation of rock and pop classics, as all three members truly embrace all kinds of music. They are thrilled to be visiting Hearst Ranch Winery
